Holly Wearing

"Whenever I think of any memory when I was a kid growing up on the lakes, I always think of Holly.

Unfortunately,  cancer took her away from us when she was a teenager. But looking back, on the time I had with her, she helped me grow into the adult I am now. She had a tremendous love for the outdoors and animals. As kids, we would spend hours riding our bikes, swimming, fishing, boating, knee boarding, and tubing. We looked forward every year to go to the Shawano County Fair,  where we would spend all day spinning on the rides, playing the games, and looking at the animals.

The best part of summer was the 4th of July. Watching the pontoon parade and fireworks late into the night is something that I still love every year, but it does bring some tears as I wonder what it would be like to still have Holly next to me, sitting at the end of the dock, splashing each other without a care in the world. I wish my husband and kids could have met her and maybe our kids would play together. She is always with me in my heart, and I see flashbacks of us having fun laughing and playing when I watch my kids play just as we did.

Holly had to grow up way too fast when she was sick, but through it all she showed that no matter what is happening in your life you can still have fun, be humble, have patience,  and show your friends and family you love them. She was a true friend, someone who was a warrior until the end while showing grace and humility through it all."

Donor Spotlight

The Fireworks Committee is thrilled to shine a spotlight on two of its dedicated members, Connie and Don Steudel!

Since joining the committee in 2018, the couple has been instrumental in helping to bring spectacular firework displays to the community.

But their contributions don’t stop there! Connie and Don have recently taken on a new project, championing the development of the disc golf course across from Sandy Beach. Their passion and commitment to community activities are inspiring, and the community is grateful for their tireless efforts.

The Sandy Beach Disc Golf Course and Recreational Trail is set to provide exercise and family fun along nine holes, amidst scenic woodlands.  The course will also introduce a new game called Flinger Golf. The disk golf course and recreational trail are taking shape thanks to Steudel’s dedication, along with the hard work of volunteers and approval from the township. When completed, it will provide a fun and challenging space for locals, visitors, and youth to enjoy the great outdoors.

Steudel’s dual pursuits showcase their commitment to community engagement and entertainment. The Sandy Beach Disc Golf Course/ Recreational Trail will be dedicated to Alvin Bartz for the 50+ years that he has given to the town of Belle Plaine. The course is expected to be a hole-in-one for community fun!

Thank you, Connie and Don, for your outstanding service and dedication to making our community a better place!
